Famed Architect Was the Designer for Forest Greens

Forest Greens Golf Club is proud to recognize the designer of its course – Clyde Johnston of Hilton Head Island in S.C. Johnston has received awards for many of his designs including Ocean Harbour Golf Links, Jacksonville Golf & Country Club, Old South Golf Links and Covered Bridge Golf Club, owned and co-designed by Fuzzy Zoeller. Johnston has also been involved in several golf course renovations including Forest Oaks Country Club, home of the PGA Tour's Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic, Savannah Golf Club, Sea Pines Plantation's Sea Marsh Course and several other courses in the Hilton Head Island area.

Johnston is a member and past president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and has a bachelor's of environmental design in landscape architecture from North Carolina State University.

He has strong family roots in golf and other sports. In fact, early in his career he worked for his father, C.B. Johnny Johnson, who was a Class “A” PGA professional at Blair Park and Sea Scape golf clubs in North Carolina. His father was also golf coach at Wake Forest College from 1947 to 1951. Clyde's sister, Cathy Johnston-Forbes, has been an LPGA Tour player since 1986.
